Environment Agency figures for every Hull postcode district: how many addresses sit in each risk band, which floods have been recorded nearby, which warning areas cover you, and whether a warning is in force right now.
The checker uses the same Environment Agency data as the figures below. It works for Hull (HU1 to HU9) and the nearby East Riding towns we cover. For a rating for one exact address, the government's long-term flood risk service goes further.

Each town has its own flood record on its page.
Hull City Council puts more than 90% of the city below high tide level, and every drop of rain that falls on it has to be pumped away. In June 2007, 8,657 houses flooded when that system was overwhelmed. In December 2013 a tidal surge reached a record 5.8m at the Hull barrier. So the risk here comes from three directions at once: surface water, the Humber and the drains that run through the city. The figures below take the worse of river and sea or surface water for each address.
One warning about the history lists. The Environment Agency's recorded flood outlines miss a lot of surface water flooding, including much of 2007 in areas like Orchard Park. Treat them as a minimum.
Yes, more than most places. Hull City Council puts over 90% of the city below high tide level and says over 95% of its homes are at risk from at least one kind of flooding. The risk varies a lot from street to street, which is why the postcode figures matter.
They are the Environment Agency bands for the chance of flooding in any one year: high is more than 3.3%, medium is between 1% and 3.3%, low is between 0.1% and 1%, and very low is below 0.1%. They take the worse of river and sea or surface water flooding.

Yes for rivers and the sea: sign up free at gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings or ring Floodline on 0345 988 1188. There are no official warnings for surface water flooding, which is the kind that hit Hull in 2007.
Risk bands and groundwater flags come from the Environment Agency's postcode flood risk data. Recorded floods come from its Recorded Flood Outlines, warning areas and gauges from its real-time flood monitoring service, which also supplies the live warnings in the checker. Figures were refreshed on 2026-09-27. This uses Environment Agency flood and river level data from the real-time data API (Beta).
