Biohazard Cleanup in Hull

Some clean-ups need more than water extraction: contaminated material has to be removed, bagged and disposed of properly, and the area disinfected before anyone uses it again.

What we mean by biohazard

How we approach it

  1. Assess and contain. We work out what's there, isolate the area, and keep other rooms clean.
  2. Protect the team and household. Full protective equipment for us, and clear advice for anyone living there on what to avoid.
  3. Remove contaminated material. Bagged, labelled and disposed of through licensed waste routes, with a record of what was removed.
  4. Clean and disinfect. Every affected surface, then dry the area so nothing grows back.

Discretion

Some of these jobs are distressing or private, and neighbours don't need to know the details. We arrive in plain workwear where possible, keep the work contained, and talk only to the people you tell us to.

Around Hull

We cover the city and the East Riding. For flood-related contamination, our sewage cleanup and black water pages explain the process in more detail, and contamination cleanup covers the wider range.

Our water damage cost guide sets out what pumping out, stripping out and drying usually cost, and how flood and escape of water claims differ.

Mould starts growing within 24 to 48 hours of a leak. The sooner drying starts, the less damage and the lower the cost.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a biohazard clean-up?

Anything involving sewage, animal waste or other material that can carry disease and needs removing and disposing of as controlled waste, rather than simply cleaning.

Is it safe to stay in the property?

Keep away from the affected area until it's been cleaned. For large sewage floods, staying elsewhere for a few days is sensible.

How is the waste disposed of?

Through licensed waste routes, bagged and recorded, not in household bins.

Will insurance cover it?

If it follows a flood or escape of water you're claiming for, the clean-up is usually part of that claim. Pest-related contamination often isn't covered, so check your policy.
