A wall can feel dry on the surface while the cavity and the insulation behind it are still holding water. Left there it keeps the plaster damp, lifts the skirting boards, feeds black mould and leaves a musty smell that never quite clears.

How we dry a wall cavity

• Take moisture readings to confirm how wet the wall and cavity are.
• Create discreet access points low on the wall.
• Force dry air through the cavity to dry it from the inside.
• Dry the insulation in place, or remove and replace it where it is too far gone.
• Monitor until the wall reaches a dry standard, then make good.

When insulation has to be replaced

Cavity insulation that has been soaked by contaminated water or has collapsed cannot be dried back to a usable state. We strip it out, dry the cavity, and leave it ready for fresh insulation.

Many Hull semis and newer estate homes have cavity-wall insulation that wicks and holds flood and leak water. We dry it or strip and replace it so the damp does not creep back up the wall.
