What cleanup covers

The order matters

1. Record first. Photos of every room, the source and the tide line, before anything is moved or thrown away.
2. Water out. Every litre extracted is one that doesn't have to be dried out of the walls.
3. Strip and clean. Ruined materials out, and surfaces cleaned.
4. Start drying the same day. Cleanup without drying just leaves a tidier wet house.

Cleanup alone isn't enough

A room can look clean and dry after a day's cleanup while the walls, floor void and screed still hold a lot of water. In Hull's older solid-wall houses especially, that water comes out slowly over weeks. Without drying and readings, the likely result is mould, blown plaster and a smell that won't go. For a small clean-water leak, mopping up and opening windows is fine.
