Where hidden mould grows

• Behind kitchen base units and the bath panel, after a slow leak.
• On the back of plasterboard and under wallpaper on a damp wall.

Finding it

The smell is usually strongest near the source, so we start there, then use moisture readings to find the damp that's feeding it. Sometimes that means taking off a kickboard, lifting a floorboard or cutting a small inspection hole in plasterboard. Removing it

1. Contain the area so spores don't spread when materials are disturbed.
2. Remove affected board, underlay or wallpaper, and clean timber and brick.
3. Dry the damp behind it, or deal with the condensation causing it.
4. Treat and ventilate so the smell clears once the source has gone.

Health
